  • Short-term Mission Challenge: At the February 2008 LWML Board of Directors meeting, President Janice Wendorf issued a challenge to the LWML’s 40 districts to each send two short-term mission teams into the mission field by March 2010 in support of our missionaries and partner churches. In order to make this challenge possible, LCMS World Mission has been working with our national and international missionaries and partner churches to compile a list of needs that can be met through LWML women’s service.   • Mercy arm helps overlooked survivors: Through Lutheran World Relief (LWR), While the deadly cyclone in Myanmar and the earthquake in China dominate world news, the Synod's mercy arm launched a $452,000 effort to give long-term education and economic help to survivors in three communities that have been largely overlooked since another Asian disaster. LCMS World Relief and Human Care (LCMS WR-HC) has begun preparations to open an education center, kindergarten/nursery school, and a community credit union in an impoverished area of Aceh, Indonesia, that was among the hardest hit by the tsunami in December 2004.   • Wheat Ridge offers 'Health, Hope' grants : Wheat Ridge Ministries is inviting congregations to submit applications from Sept. 1 through Oct. 31 for its "Congregation Health and Hope Grant" program. The grants are intended to help congregations develop health and wellness ministries. All Lutheran congregations -- individually or in partnership with other congregations -- are eligible for the grants. The maximum amount per grant is $2,000 for a single congregation, and $6,000 for collaborative efforts involving two or more congregations. Read more...
