New to Immanuel Lutheran Church? Great! Start Here...
We are delighted you visited our website to learn about Immanuel Lutheran Church. We Hope you will explore our website and learn more about us. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Immanuel Lutheran Church has been serving Seymour since 1870 and has operated a Lutheran Day School for Kindergarten through 8th grade since 1874. We also operate a childcare for infants from 6 weeks up to Kindergarten.
Immanuel Lutheran Church is a Christ-centered historic, liturgical, and vibrant Lutheran congregation in the heart of Seymour.
We would love to have you stop by to visit and worship with us on Sunday morning or drop by during the week to speak with our Pastors. Our church office is open weekdays from 8:15am - 5:00pm and is easily reached by Doors 5 or 6 on the east side of the building off of Oesting St. If you need to talk with us after hours, feel free to call the church office number.
Upon arrival for worship, one of the first questions you may have is, "Which door should I use?" Our main doors are in the front of our sanctuary near Walnut Street, and there are other doors on the south side of the sanctuary by the canopy and on the north side of the church by the bell tower.
You may park in our church and school parking lots, along with the adjoining streets.
On Sunday mornings, an usher or greeter is available to help direct you. We have a Sunday morning worship service at 9:00 a.m., Sunday School and Adult Bible Classes begin around 10:15 a.m. and end at 11:00 a.m., followed by another worship service at 11:15 a.m. We also have a Monday evening service each week at 7:00 p.m.
We look forward to your visit!

Worship Style
Worship is an important time when God connects us to himself and his family. We follow a pattern of worship designed to keep Jesus in the center and involve everyone in praying, hearing, and singing. The orders of service used in the hymnal provide variety while using phrases right out of the Bible. These orders also connect us to Christians around the world and are not hard to learn. Our worship is often enhanced by gifted choirs and instrumentalists.
Children in worship
Children are always welcome to worship with their family but if they get fussy or restless, we have a Wee Wiggle Room, a nursery with toys and books that the children can use and a close-circuit TV streaming the service during all services. We also have a cry room that can be accessed, also with the service streaming. Just ask an usher for help finding these locations.
Teaching style
You'll connect to a Christ-centered message straight from the Bible during each of our services and Bible studies. A variety of classes are offered on Sunday mornings and throughout the week.

"Follow Me" - Becoming a Member
In contemporary North America, we often think of “membership” like a buffet line. We sign up for gyms, clubs, and organizations, picking and choosing what seems to suit us. But membership in the Church is something much deeper. It is not simply about joining another group or adding a name to a list; it is about being welcomed into a family of faith, becoming part of this particular community of believers, and sharing in the blessings of life and salvation that God gives here in this place.
As you seek to discern whether or not to become a member at Immanuel, we encourage you to frequently attend worship, join us for events and activities, and take time to meet other members and our Pastors. We would love to help you feel connected and included here!
To support this, we invite those who are interested to attend our Adult Instruction Class: “What Do Lutherans Believe and Why?” This class is designed to explore the essential teachings of the Bible about life, God, the world, and the future. Whether you are new to the Christian faith, curious about the Lutheran tradition, or a lifelong member looking for a good review, this course provides an opportunity to deepen your understanding and faith.
Some of the topics we will discuss include:
This class will prepare non-members to join the church, but there is no obligation to do so. It is simply an opportunity to learn, explore, and grow in faith.
If you are interested, please call the church office at 812-522-3118 to inquire about upcoming class dates.

- How Christians can speak about God's creation in view of current scientific theories.
- Why Scriptures written long ago remain reliable and relevant today.
- How we can be certain of salvation through Jesus Christ.
- How Lutheran beliefs are similar to and different from those of other Christians
